Costa Rica has a handful of dragonflies showing black on the wings and this is one of them. It has a smaller cousin with less black on the wings, U. imbuta (Tropical Woodskimmer) which we also encountered.
This character was lurking over a swampy area of La Selva Biological Reserve but a swamp that was passable for my walking boots.
